M

MDI
MDI is an acronym for Multiple Document Interface.
MDI Application
MDI applications allow multiple forms to be open in the same instance of an application. An MDI application has a special form (MDI frame) within which multiple independent MDI child forms can be opened. In some applications, the child forms can be different or even attached to different targets.
MDI Child
MDI child forms are overlapped inside the client area of the MDI frame form. When they do not fit inside the client area, the scroll bars appear.
MDI Frame
MDI Frame is usually the main application form. It has a special client area that hosts MDI child forms.
Modal form
Modal forms require the user to respond before continuing the program. When a modal form is displayed on the screen, it intercepts the control, so the user has no access to any parent or sibling of the modal form. Many DM applications are designed to use a sequence and/or a cascade of modal forms.
Modeless form
Modeless forms stay on the screen and are available for use at any time but permit other user activities. Several modeless forms may be opened at the same time and the user may switch between them.

R

Resource file
A file containing the complete descriptions of the forms. Interface Builder reads and updates information in the resource file that may be later read by the DM runtime to instantiate forms on the screen and interact with the application program. Plain text or internal binary formats are supported for resource files.

S

Static property
The property, value of which may be defined at design time.
Static widget
A widget that may have no target.

T

Target
An object, for which the form is created, or a feature of the object, to which the widget is bound.

W

Widget
A user interface element which is placed on the form.
